Despite Wade Ormsby’s first round 65 (-5), I really fancy Oliver Wilson for this matchup for the second round at Lahinch GC.
Wilson has been in very good form the entire year, and a mediocre result in Spain last week shouldn’t cloud the fact that this week’s course suits him perfectly. He made no bogeys in his first round 66 (-4), which underlines the fact that his scrambling is at a top level at the moment.
And here at the tricky Lahinch GC with small and undulating greens that has to be the primary key for success. Add to that some really strong links results including a win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and plenty of solid results from both the Scottish and Irish Open.
Ormsby on the other hand seems almost misplaced on a links course in general and his record from the three mentioned tournaments speaks of more missed than made cuts and absolutely no top results what so ever.
Yes, Ormsby does know how to scramble and (slightly) outscored Wilson in the first round, but that really doesn’t make this an even matchup.
